Working together on circularity
Are there textiles in your product?
- Help safeguard the limited resources of our planet from depletion.
- Help find solutions to the mountains of textile waste.
- Anticipate the European transition from a linear to a circular economy.
- Be prepared for new Belgian and European legislation on the take-back obligation or acceptance obligation or EPR.
Attention
Don’t forget to consider PPE’s also.
Personal protective equipment may also contain textiles and therefore has to conform to the legislation on the take-back obligation or acceptance obligation or EPR.

Inter alia, this legislation means that producers, sellers or importers of textiles:
- Must bear the full cost of the life cycle of their product.
- Must meet the targets set out in the EPR for selective collection, reuse and recycling.
- That the textile products must be produced in accordance with the rules of Design for recycling (DforR) and Design for circularity (RforC).
- Must specify the volume of textiles that is put on the market in Belgium.
- Must specify the quantity of ‘end-of-life’ professional textiles which is selectively collected and how this is processed (reuse, recycling, incineration).
- Must make available the necessary financial resources to meet these targets.
What does Circletex do?
Circletex vzw negotiates within the framework of textile circularity with, among other things, authorities to find pragmatically workable circular targets. This takes place based on reliable data, experience and developments from all the relevant areas.
Our mission
To promote/facilitate and monitor circular economy commitments related to the selective collection of all products made with textiles.
These commitments are determined by current or future European, federal and regional legislation, related and relevant environmental agreements, other contracts and/or agreements.
Circletex reports on the quantities marketed in Belgium, the selectively collected quantities and the amount of recycled fibres and strives to increase circularity through various channels.

Approach
Facilitation via a digital matchmaking platform:
- relationships/collaboration between end-users, service providers, manufacturers & other stakeholders
- matching supply and demand of materials/products
Facilitate selective collection, sorting and valorisation of:
- pre-consumer textile flows (manufacturing residues, unsold products, …)
- post-consumer textile flows (used products, end-of-life products, …)
Application of circular economy principles by facilitating:
- Product maintenance/life extension, reuse/repair
- Upgrading and recycling of raw materials

Our pioneers
Creamoda, Febelsafe and FBT, together with several leading companies, established Circletex. Circletex is a voluntary system which, in preparation for the forthcoming legislation, provides an answer to the valorisation of collected textiles with the ultimate aim of promoting circularity.
We are starting with flat linen, work clothing and protective products containing textiles, collectively referred to as professional textiles. Later this year, we will be looking at consumer textiles, more on that later.
Who are our pioneers:
- Alsico
- Cleanlease
- Creamoda (Federation of the Belgian clothing and garment sector)
- Dumoulin
- Dutra
- FBT (Federation of Belgian textile care)
- Febelsafe (Belgian federation of manufacturers, distributors, service providers and professional end users regarding safety and welfare)
- Sarco
- Sioen
- Texet
With the support of Circular Flanders (OVAM) and partners Denuo and Fedustria.
